The Tonsler League, originally established as the BCBA Men's League in 2010 by Damien “Snakes” Banks, was taken over by Dr. Wes Bellamy in 2022, and renamed as the Tonsler League in honor of Benjamin Tonsler, the former principal of 30 years of the first Black school in Charlottesville, entrepreneur and community leader.
The Tonsler League is a community organization that operates sports leagues and community events throughout the year to help serve the community's under-resourced population. Known for their Summer Men's League In Charlottesville, VA, the Tonsler League draws talent and fans from all over due to its infectious family-like atmosphere. Each summer, teams get together to compete at Tonsler Park (aka THE JUNGLE) in hopes of winning the championship title and bragging rights until the next season.
In Fall 2024, the Tonsler League expanded It's organization to Include flag football and In Summer 2025, will be expanding their basketball league to Richmond, VA.
While the Tonsler League is widely known for its sporting matchups, we pride ourselves on our community engagement events, putting on annual bike giveaways, turkey drives, Sneakerball (scholarship fundraiser) and more.
Where?
Tonsler Park - 500 Cherry Avenue, Charlottesville, VA
When?
Tonsler - Cville: Games are held on Thursdays (6PM, 7PM and 8PM) and Sundays (5PM, 6PM, 7PM, 8PM) at Tonsler Park.
Tonsler - Richmond: Games are held on Saturdays.
Tonsler - Flag Football: Games are held Sunday mornings in the Spring and Fall.
Parking?
No parking inside of the Tonsler Park circle this year, that area will be our Vendor Zone! The Tonsler League has approval to use the parking lot directly across from the park (501 Cherry Ave) AND the Woodard Parking Lot (near GoCo).
